In anatolia, the motifs and the way they are designed tell the weaver’s story.
Just like the dragon, the scorpion symbolizes protection. Weavers believed that imitating or placing part of a dangerous animal gives them power over it, and thus protection from it.
Repeated use of the scorpion motif (such as this piece) means that the rug was woven as a means of protection against malice.
This motif is also a symbol of pride and liberty.
The front cover curved design is inspired from the shape of doorways that I've come across often in Turkey.
I wanted to incorporate as much detail as the original weavers do into their work, so the book is binded the same way that these front and back cover textiles are weaved.
