I've wanted to incorporate scent into my books for the longest time, and tried to experiment with making handmade paper with scents but it usually never lasts - if you've ever received a sample perfume sprayed onto a piece of paper, it's just like that
So I started exploring other materials that would retain scent, and found clays made with Japanese Cypress wood powder. it's been 4 months since I crafted this book and the scent of cypress wood still lingers ✨️
It can get pretty tricky to work with clay to get the motif right as the details are tiny and so, fragile. But after multiple failed broken pieces, it's rewarding to successfully make 1 complete motif like this.
